CCBC Student, Health Professions Pathway

Tania Walker

Fueled by a personal experience, Tania is dedicated to delivering compassionate care through dental hygiene.

"I chose the Dental Hygiene program because of my mom's journey with cancer," said Tania, who started CCBC In 2020. "Her care team inspired me, and I realized that the health care field needs more compassionate professionals. While dental health may not seem related, I see this as an opportunity to work closely with patients and inform them about the link between oral and overall health."

Tania chose CCBC because of its focus on academic excellence, smaller class sizes and affordability.

"CCBC offered a personalized learning environment, and the cost was a big factor for me,” she said. “Tuition here is much more affordable than at larger universities, which allows me to pursue my degree without accumulating significant debt. Scholarships and financial aid have been incredibly helpful in supporting my education."

Tania has made the most of her time at CCBC by getting involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, including the Student Government Association, Aspiring Leaders program and Phi Theta Kappa national honor society. Her involvement in these groups has strengthened her leadership skills and helped her build a strong sense of community.

Looking ahead, Tania plans to complete her associate degree and begin working as a dental hygienist. She also intends to pursue a Bachelor of Science in the field to further her knowledge and career prospects in dental care.

I realized that the health care field needs more compassionate professionals.

The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, including the CCBC’s connections with local health care facilities, ensures that Tania will be well-equipped to enter the workforce upon graduation.

Throughout her time at CCBC, she has found her instructors to be supportive and dedicated to her success.

"The faculty at CCBC are passionate and knowledgeable,” she said. “They’re always available to answer questions and provide feedback, and that’s made a big difference in my learning experience.”

Tania is committed to providing both medical and emotional support to patients and is building the foundation she needs to succeed. For Tania, helping others to optimize their health is more than just a career — it's a calling.

"Hands-on experience is key in this field, and I’m excited to contribute to patient care,” she said. “I feel that CCBC is effectively preparing me for a career in health care. The curriculum is both rigorous and relevant, providing me with the essential knowledge and skills necessary in the field.”

Tania is one of CCBC’s 2024-2025 Fresh Faces student representatives.
