Safia Kiran

CCBC Student, General Studies and Early College Access Program

Honors College student Safia accelerated her college journey, earning an impressive 46 credits in high school at CCBC through ECAP.

Safia, a general studies student at CCBC, is charting a clear path toward her future in political science. Originally from Pakistan, Safia came to CCBC as a dual-enrolled student through the Early College Access Program (ECAP).

“CCBC taught me that teaching and learning doesn’t have to be boring,” she said. Her experiences at CCBC have proven that education is about more than just textbooks – it’s about community, connection and personal growth.

While in high school, Safia took full advantage of CCBC’s flexibility by attending classes in the evening, online and during weekends. By the time she graduated in spring 2024, she had already earned 46 college credits, positioning her to complete her associate degree at CCBC by the fall of the same year. This accelerated start has allowed her to focus on her ultimate goal: transferring to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor's in political science.

CCBC is supportive, accessible and diverse.

“CCBC helped me figure out what I actually want to do in my future,” she reflected. She is a member of the CCBC Honors College, which has provided her with the opportunity to interact with top-notch professors and engage with other students.

Beyond academics, Safia is deeply involved in campus life. As the event coordinator for the Muslim Student Association, she plays a crucial role in fostering community and supporting fellow students.

“I not only help spread the message of my culture but also try to help new Muslim students who may be struggling to find people in their community,” she shared. Her involvement has allowed her to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and grow her leadership skills.

For those considering community college, Safia offers simple yet powerful advice: “Start taking your pre-requisite classes while you decide on a major!”

Her experience at CCBC has been transformative, giving her the foundation she needs to succeed.

“CCBC is supportive, accessible and diverse,” she said. Safia is one of CCBC’s 2024-2025 Fresh Faces student representatives.
