Muhammad Ali, a pre-med biology major, is on the path to becoming a heart surgeon serving first-generation and low-income communities.

Muhammad Ali came to CCBC with a clear vision: to build a solid educational foundation in medicine that would propel him toward becoming a heart surgeon and cardiologist. Originally from Pakistan, Muhammad Ali chose CCBC for its academic reputation, affordability and supportive environment.

"CCBC has provided me with a strong foundation for my academic journey and has helped me connect with fellow students who share similar goals and interests," said Muhammad Ali, who is in the CCBC Honors College.

Muhammad Ali's ambitions have also been boosted by CCBC’s commitment to providing ample opportunities for education access and financial aid.

CCBC’s approach to affordability has allowed me to fully focus on my studies.

The Presidential and Phi Theta Kappa scholarships he received have further eased his financial burden. With these supports, Muhammad Ali, who is a biology major, has consistently made the dean’s list. He has also been able to enjoy a well-rounded life outside of the classroom, thanks to CCBC’s many offerings and flexibility.

“I appreciate the convenience of CCBC. Early, late and online classes allow me to balance my studies with family, work and extracurricular activities,” he said.

He works for Student Engagement and the Tutoring Center, and is the president of the Student Government Association and vice president of the Student Honors Council.

“Being able to manage my classes around these commitments has enabled me to stay focused on my academic goals while actively engaging in leadership roles that support my growth and connect me with other students,” he shared.

Through these experiences, Muhammad Ali has strengthened his commitment to his future career and to his goal of serving first-generation and low-income communities.

As he looks toward transferring to Johns Hopkins University or an Ivy League institution, Muhammad Ali credits CCBC with preparing him for the challenges ahead.

“CCBC has been instrumental in providing a strong academic foundation, research opportunities and the support needed for me to achieve high academic standards," he said.

His journey at CCBC has not only equipped him with the skills necessary for the medical field but has also reinforced his resolve to make a difference in the world.

Muhammad Ali is one of CCBC’s 2024-2025 Fresh Faces student representatives.
