Macie's decision to attend CCBC wasn’t only about the academic offerings, but also about affordability.
"Cost was a factor," she said. “CCBC is very affordable, and FAFSA helped a lot. It made it easier for me and my mom to manage tuition.”
Her love for music is what initially drew her to the Music Production and Audio Technology program.
What I love most is the hands-on approach — being able to work with real equipment and learning by doing,” she said. “The program’s teachers are incredible and always there to help."
The flexibility of course formats at CCBC — day, evening and online — has been essential.
In addition to the technical skills, the program includes an internship component, which Macie is excited about.
“After my internship, I plan to jump right into work,” she said. “I’ve found that I love building stages and working behind the scenes. I’d like to work at a venue or tour with a band to help with sound setups.”
Flexibility has been key for Macie in balancing her education with other life commitments.
“The flexibility of course formats at CCBC — day, evening and online — has been essential,” she said. “It allows me to manage my time with work and family. Online courses, especially, are helpful because I can work at my own pace.”
One of Macie’s favorite aspects of CCBC is the supportive environment.
"The professors in the music department are amazing," she said. “They really care about your success and go above and beyond to help you understand the material.”
In addition to her studies, Macie is involved as a student engagement ambassador, where she helps with events and connects with other students, making the college experience even more rewarding.
Macie plans to earn a certificate in Music Production and Audio Technology and is excited about the future.
“This certificate will help me gain knowledge and push me to get out of my comfort zone in a studio or live event setting,” she said.
With the skills she’s building in music production and the hands-on experience she’s gaining at CCBC, Macie is on track to turn her passion into a successful career in the music industry.
Macie is one of CCBC’s 2024-2025 Fresh Faces student representatives.
