Wherever she may roam, Kasia Smith’s trucking career is off to a rockin' start.
In Summer 2024, Smith began her Commercial Vehicle Operator-A Class workforce certificate program at CCBC, fueled by grants from Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and Carhartt's For the Love of Labor initiative.
I’ve always loved breaking out of the box society puts women in,” Smith shared. “Receiving this grant shows my daughter that she shouldn’t be discouraged from pursuing opportunities in male-dominated industries. This will also make a meaningful impact on my family.
A career-changer, Smith previously worked as an event planner and bus driver before pursuing a future as a commercial truck driver. The CCBC truck driving program prepares students to earn their Maryland CDL-A license and operate heavy and tractor trailer trucks, paving the way for well-paying careers transporting goods in-state and across the country.
Carhartt's grant, created to challenge outdated stereotypes and encourage women to enter skilled trades, was awarded to the All Within My Hands Foundation in March 2024. CCBC is one of only five schools benefiting from this initiative.
We wish Kasia long-haul success in her new trucking career!
