For Carter, choosing CCBC was all about making smart decisions, practicality and finding a sense of community. With a goal to run his own business someday, Carter wanted a flexible, affordable start close to home while exploring his interests.
“CCBC was a lot less expensive than the four-year schools I got into, and I was still undecided on my major and figuring things out,” he said.
Taking advantage of CCBC’s variety of course offerings has allowed Carter to balance work, sports and academics effectively.
The more you do at CCBC, the more CCBC gives back to you.
“The flexibility is tremendous,” he said. “It allows everyone, no matter their situation, to apply themselves academically to their fullest extent.” Online courses, he notes, have given him the space to learn at his own pace and manage multiple commitments—a crucial factor for someone with an active athletics life.
Carter is a member of the CCBC Dundalk baseball team, which has enriched his college experience.
“Baseball has supplied me with a lot of memories that will be looked back upon when I think about my time here,” he reflected. The camaraderie with his teammates and the fun of playing have made CCBC more than just a steppingstone; it’s become a place that has given him a sense of belonging.
“I think it’s important to get involved because you’re helping your own cause. The more you do at CCBC, the more CCBC gives back to you,” said Carter.
As he looks forward to transferring to a four-year school and majoring in business, Carter is thankful for the practical, meaningful start CCBC has provided.
His advice to others? “If you’re undecided, community college gives you that extra time some people need before going all in.”
