Sheela Murthy, a graduate of Harvard Law School is a leader in U.S. immigration law. She is the President and Founder of the prestigious Murthy Law Firm. Her firm’s 80+ dedicated employees help strengthen U.S. companies seeking the best and the brightest workers from abroad.
In 2012, she was honored as an Innovator of the Year and one of Maryland’s Most Admired CEOs and was named among 2011 Top 50 Most Influential Marylanders. The United Way of Central Maryland also recognized Sheela Murthy as Philanthropist of the Year due to her generous donations to causes in the US and India.
In continuing her commitment to the Community College of Baltimore County and in honor of the former dean of Community Education and Service Donna Reihl, Ms. Murthy gifted the college with a $50,000 endowment to establish the Sheela Murthy/Donna Reihl Global Lecture Series. This lecture series highlights international and global leaders in business, government, education and other areas important to CCBC students, faculty and the community.
The intent of the Sheela Murthy/Donna Reihl Lecture Series is to open the minds and hearts of college students to the importance of global issues, irrespective of where they choose to work and what they choose to do. The future success of our next generation depends on students realizing the importance of a global economy and embracing it.
Reihl, who passed away in 2011, started working at the college in 1997 and held a variety of positions before becoming dean. In addition to her work at CCBC, Reihl was named Woman of the Year in 2003 by the Baltimore County Commission for Women and served as board president for the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland. It was on the Girl Scouts board where Murthy and Reihl connected and shared their passion for helping others.
