What is Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)?
Credit for Prior Learning evaluates learning that has occurred outside of the traditional college setting. Through CPL assessments and evaluations, students earn credit, certification or advanced standing for the knowledge and skills they already have.
CPL recognizes on-the-job experience, professional training, military service, volunteer work, personal interests and more! You can earn credit through:
- External assessments: Put your knowledge to the test or earn credits for assessments you've already taken.
- Internal assessments: Arrange a departmental exam or work with a faculty member to create a portfolio.
- Industry credentials: Earn college credit for the skills and knowledge you've gained through industry credentials like certifications, apprenticeships and licensure.
- Military experiences: Military training and education is often aligned with college-level learning outcomes!
While costs vary depending on assessment type, military members and their dependants may be eligible for exam fee waivers for many of these CPL opportunities!
