Kinesiology

Kinesiology focuses on the scientific study of human movement and how physical activity and sport affect our quality of life. Immerse yourself in the world of fitness, medical exercise, exercise science and sports conditioning as you learn how to conduct health risk appraisals and fitness assessments, interpret assessment results, design evidence-based exercise programs, provide fitness instruction and supervise fitness facilities.

Career options in Kinesiology include athletic trainer, strength and conditioning coach, physical therapist, personal trainer and fitness specialist. Associate degree graduates are prepared to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year kinesiology degree program.

CCBC partners with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to prepare students for external agency certification.

Physical Education and Health are an integral part of CCBC’s core general education courses. This general education requirement can be met by taking, PEFT 101 or HLTH 101.

CCBC also offers a variety of Physical Education elective courses from traditional team sports like soccer and basketball to individual activities such as weight training, tai chi and yoga.

Program

CCBC can also help you to begin your career in teaching Physical Education. The Physical Education Degree program follows local, state, and national teaching guidelines to develop teaching candidates into competent Physical Educators.

Teaching candidates develop personal physical literacy skills and teaching strategies in order to help others develop kinesthetic awareness and proficiency, as well as healthy lifestyle behaviors. Physical education extends beyond the classroom and can serve as a foundation for other careers in coaching, exercise science, health education, athletic administration, public health and sports management.

Public Health

As a Public Health major, you will become a trusted source of knowledge for a variety of health topics such as fitness, nutrition, stress management, mental health, drug abuse, heart disease and beyond.

The associate degree prepares students to transfer to a school with a four-year degree in school health education or public health. Careers include school health educator at the elementary through high school level, a public health professional or corporate wellness specialist.

Courses can be taken on a full- or part-time basis, both online and onsite. Choose the option that’s best for you!

Sports Management

A degree in Sports Management will prepare you to handle the business end of sports and recreation. If you see yourself as a coach, athletics director, fitness facility manager, sports marketing specialist, events manager, player relationship manager or overseeing recreation facilities, explore the CCBC Sports Management program.

This degree is appropriate for students interested in careers at the community, commercial, college or professional sports level. Coursework includes coaching, facility management, accounting, macro/microeconomics, sports history, sports sociology, legal studies and ethics. There is also an internship at the end of the program.

After graduation you will be in a position to start earning immediately in some fields, such as officiating, as you prepare to transfer to a four-year institution.
