The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program at CCBC has existed since 1988 and is accredited through the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education. Students enrolled in this program learn to assist in providing occupational therapy to patients with a variety of medical and psychosocial diagnoses.

Occupational therapy assistants provide treatment interventions to assist patients/clients to maximize skills in order to function as independently as possible when faced with physical and/or psychosocial challenges caused by injury, illness, disease, or developmental disability.

Graduates of this program can work in hospitals, health care centers, nursing facilities, school systems, inpatient/outpatient mental health programs and rehabilitation centers.

Accreditation

This program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). ACOTE is located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E; Bethesda, Maryland 20814. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is 301.652.AOTA.

Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination for the Occupational Therapy Assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the graduate will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). This program has been granted re-accreditation through the academic year 2033/34.
