Family Literacy ESOL

English for parents and caregivers

Our Family Literacy ESOL classes help parents or caregivers learn English for life, work, and to better support their children in school. To join, parents must have a child (age 0-16) enrolled in Baltimore County Public Schools, select private schools or the Judy Center of Baltimore County.

The classes are free thanks to support from the Maryland Department of Labor, but students need to buy a set of textbooks and workbooks. Students with F-1 or J-1 Visas cannot join these classes.

Classes are held in-person, both in the morning and evening. All students must have a smartphone.

Registration

Registration is simple and done in person. To sign up, come to one of the registration sessions listed below.

Important notes:

  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Registration takes up to 3 hours and is limited to a certain number of students.
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age, not enrolled or planning to attend high school.
  • Only students who are registering are allowed in the registration area. Friends and family members must wait in a different area.
  • New students will take a test to determine placement. Returning students may not need to take the placement test. Bring your referral form or the certificate from the previous semester with you to registration.
  • You will receive information about the class schedule when you register.
  • If CCBC is closed, ESOL registration sessions will also be canceled that day.

At the Community College of Baltimore County, we strive to create a welcoming environment for all of our students. If you require an accommodation for a disability, please email jwalsh@ccbcmd.edu or call us at 443.840.3428.
