Biomechanics for the Crash Investigator (SSP 355)

This course is designed to teach crash investigators how to recognize and interpret traffic crash evidence as it relates to occupant seating positions. Participants will be shown how to determine occupant movement from the crash damage and the subsequent injuries that resulted. Participants will also learn how to determine occupant seating positions and safety belt usage, and examine the significance of airbag and other restraint deployments. Other topics to be covered include reading medical record and autopsy records, injury terminology, calculation of principal direction of force, and vehicle interior examination.
