This course is designed to enable the student to learn about the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system and review operations for all NCIC users. This hands-on class reviews basic NCIC functions, codes, and changes in NCIC policy while students perform wanted/stolen checks at the computer/terminal. The course is mandated by the FBI and Maryland State Police. Topics to be covered include system security, Baltimore County Police NCIC policy, 'HIT' confirmation procedures, the 'M.I.L.E.S. ' system, use of NCIC manuals, the 'GANG' file, the 'unidentified' person file, and record/background checks.
