Keeping Your Financial Aid

If you're receiving financial aid, the U.S. Department of Education requires that you enroll only in the classes necessary for your major and that you meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

SAP requirements

CCBC reviews each student's academic progress against these standards.

You need to complete at least 67% of your total attempted coursework including ESOL and developmental education.

1.5 - 2.0

Cumulative GPA

You need to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA relative to your courseload, specifically the number of billable credits.

150%

Maximum time frame

You should take no longer than 150% of the published length to complete your degree/certificate program.

How to see my financial aid status

Financial Aid evaluates your records at the end of each semester (or each year, if you are in good standing). You can check your status at anytime in SIMON in the myCCBC portal. We will also send you an email notification if you are placed on suspension.

Status types

My aid is suspended. Now what?

If your financial aid has been suspended, you will be responsible for paying tuition, fees and books until you meet SAP requirements. Keep in mind, taking a semester off will not restore eligibility.

Appeals process

If you have documented extenuating circumstances, you can file an appeal.

To appeal financial aid suspension, you will need to complete a SAP Appeal Form.

  • Identify your extenuating circumstances with as much detail as possible. Work conflicts do not count.
  • Provide formal documentation of that circumstance.
  • Explain how the situation impacted your coursework.
  • Outline how you will be more successful in the next semester.

After Financial Aid reviews your appeal, there are two possible outcomes:

Approved

You will be placed on probation, meaning you can continued receiving financial aid for the next semester. During this time an academic advisor will make an Academic Plan to help you reach SAP by the end of next semester.

Denied

You will remain on suspension until you meet SAP requirements. You may still enroll in classes, but you will be responsible for paying tuition, fees and books.

Whether your first appeal was denied or you failed to meet SAP during your probation period, there is no secondary appeal process.

What if I withdraw, audit or receive an incomplete?

If you withdraw, audit or receive an incomplete in any course, your SAP will be affected. Visit the Enrollment Services Center where a staff member will advise you how a withdrawal or incomplete course will impact your financial aid. You cannot receive financial aid for an audited course.
