CCBC's Gala Shines Bright, Raising Nearly $300,000 for Student Success Presenting Impact Awards was evening highlight


Baltimore County, Md. [April 10, 2025] – Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) celebrated a resounding success at its 18th annual gala, "Lights, Camera, Reflection," held on Saturday, April 5 at Martin’s West. The event brought together over 500 attendees, dressed in their finest attire, for an evening of celebration and philanthropy, raising nearly $300,000 to benefit CCBC students and programs.

Guests enjoyed dinner and dancing and participated in silent auctions featuring a wide array of coveted items and engaged in table games, all in support of CCBC's mission to provide an accessible, affordable and a high-quality education. The nearly $300,000 raised is an additional boost to CCBC's ambitious six-year Bridge to Success campaign, which has now garnered over $68 million and is set to conclude in June 2025. The campaign’s original goal was $51 million.

"CCBC’s gala is not just a fundraiser, but a celebration of the donors whose generosity has profoundly impacted the students, academic programs and the college community,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis." “While we have already exceeded our campaign goal, we will continue to push hard towards the finish line knowing that every dollar raised will directly support our students in achieving their academic and career goals.”

The major highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Impact Awards. These awards recognized individuals, organizations and teams that have demonstrated exceptional commitment and brought forth meaningful change throughout the CCBC community. The 2025 Impact Award categories and recipients are as follows.

  • Best in Volunteer Leadership:
    Richard A. Scheper (Jovian Concepts founder, CCBC trustee and alum)
  • Best in Cultivating Community:
    Maryland Higher Education Commission
    Baltimore County Department of Economic and Workforce Development
  • Best in Building Bridges:
    Johnson Controls Foundation
  • Best in Pioneering Progress:
    The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
  • Best in Creating Opportunities:
    Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation
  • Best in Promoting Advancement:
    Lowe’s Foundation
  • Best in Elevating Education:
    Sheldon Caplis (posthumously, CCBC trustee, 2008-2017)
    CCBC Employee Giving Campaign
  • Best in Sustaining CCBC's Success:
    Senator Francis X. Kelly, Jr. (CCBC board chair, 1996-2005)

“Our Impact Award recipients have contributed far more than money,” expressed President Kurtinitis. “They have given of their time and their talents which have profoundly impacted CCBC’s strategic priorities and elevated our students’ experience.”

The "Lights, Camera, Reflection" gala was a testament to the strong community support for CCBC and its commitment to transforming lives through education. The funds raised will provide crucial resources for student scholarships, innovative programs, and essential college initiatives as the Bridge to Success campaign enters its final months.
