The Maryland State Opioid Restitution Fund has awarded $369,902 to support CCBC in addressing the opioid crisis through workforce development and professional training. Led by Project Director Dr. Ted McCadden, the initiative will strengthen CCBC’s role in central Maryland by connecting addiction professionals, organizations and support networks. Dr. McCadden, project staff and faculty will build on the department’s efforts by expanding alcohol and drug counselor training and aligning peer recovery support specialist training across Maryland.
Leveraging CCBC’s nationally accredited addiction studies program, the project will focus on three key goals. First, it will expand the behavioral health workforce by covering tuition for recovery professionals and by offering new online training. Second, it will provide training sessions for community members, schools and organizations addressing opioid harm. Finally, Human Services Counseling faculty and staff will convene industry professionals through networking opportunities, affinity groups and a new regional conference in 2026, focused on best practices and harm reduction. This initiative is a vital step toward building a more robust and unified response to the opioid crisis.
