Baltimore County, Md. (October 22, 2024) – Community College of Baltimore County will host a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Male Student Success Initiative Suite of Achievement at the Alumni House 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 at CCBC Catonsville.

MSSI is a comprehensive retention and student success program dedicated to empowering men of color in their academic and professional journeys by providing diverse resources and opportunities such as paid internships, cultural events and success mentors.

There are approximately 500 students in CCBC’s MSSI program, which started with its first location at CCBC Essex. Nearly half of the participating students attend CCBC Catonsville.

“MSSI continues to grow at a rapid rate, and we are excited to expand the program,” said Jeffrey Wright, assistant director of MSSI. “Establishing the new location at CCBC Catonsville will enable us to create even more opportunities for our MSSI students, and we are looking forward to recruiting new students into the brotherhood.”

The MSSI Suite of Achievement is a space for CCBC’s MSSI students to study, gather and build community. The suite features a study room with computers and space to participate in virtual meetings, two offices, a private restroom and a common area for students to meet and form friendships.

The grand opening celebration will be held at the Barn Theater, followed by a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour at the Alumni House. CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis, Ph.D. and Siraj Ahmed, a Computer Science major at CCBC who has been involved with MSSI for two years, will speak at the event.
