Theatre Review: Disney’s ‘Newsies’ presented by Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre at CCBC

Kudos to director Liz Boyer Hunnicutt and choreographer Rachel Miller—and the young dancers.

When Disney’s “Newsies” was released on the silver screen in 1992, it bombed and didn’t even recoup its $15 million budget. Despite that—and given the fact that the movie performed much better on VHS—Disney took the leap to rework the cult favorite into a stage musical two decades later, when it premiered on Broadway in 2012.
