The primary objective of Humanities for Today is to create educational experiences and diverse learning environments that cultivate civic knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make a difference.
With this three-year partnership with the Mellon Foundation, CCBC plans to redesign its Humanities curriculum to improve student learning outcomes, increase student engagement and retention and foster a space of inclusivity and diversity.
The Mellon Foundation grant will also allow CCBC to provide additional professional learning opportunities for faculty and implement a Faculty Fellows program.
“We are grateful to the Mellon Foundation for continuing to help fund and support our enriching Humanities experiences for both students and faculty,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. “Humanities for Today will enable us to strengthen our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and keep CCBC in the forefront as a leader of the national Humanities movement in community colleges.”
Humanities for Today will complement CCBC’s Humanities for All initiative, which was started in 2017 with an original Mellon Foundation grant of $1.725 million to CCBC and Johns Hopkins University to support collaborations between the two institutions on Humanities curriculum and pedagogy. Humanities for Today provides humanities students with a more dynamic learning experience and helps improve student success.
