CCBC welcomes nationally recognized educational leader and antiracism activist Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. as speaker for the 2023 President’s Distinguished African American Lecture Series. Scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 in the F. Scott Black Theater, CCBC Essex, Hutchings will speak on the Historical Impact on Racial Equity in American Education.
Hutchings is the founder and chief executive officer of Revolutionary ED, LLC, a consulting firm that supports and empowers school systems to dismantle systemic racism in education and promote antiracism through responsiveness, diversity, equity and inclusion. He is a published author and college professor who unapologetically advocates for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and racial equity in education. Hutchings was recently appointed as the first Executive-in-Residence at American University’s School of Education and plays a key role in elevating the school’s Antiracist Administration, Supervision and Leadership certificate program.
Hutchings has over 20 years of combined educational experience as a college admissions counselor, teacher, school principal, central office administrator, superintendent, and college professor. He specializes in antiracism in education, educational leadership, strategic planning, strategic thinking, professional learning, school board and superintendent relations, and executive coaching.
Awarded nationally for his educational work and leadership, Hutchings serves on several boards and has contributed his expertise in education on many media platforms to include CNN with Jake Tapper, The Kojo Nnamdi Show, NPR, and as an opinion writer for EdWeek. A native of Alexandria, Va., he earned his doctorate in educational policy, planning and leadership from the College of William & Mary.
