CONCERTS
From classical to jazz, vocal and instrumental, concerts at CCBC offer every style and period of music. On the campuses and in the community, CCBC musicians bring you quality concerts year-round.

CCBC Chamber Singers
CCBC Essex, E Bldg Recital Hall
This choral ensemble, under the direction of Monica Otal, will present classical and contemporary selections on their Spring Choral Concert.

May 6 at 12:20 PM
Jazz Plus
CCBC Essex, B Bldg Upper Lobby
The Jazz Plus Ensemble, under the direction of Brian Comotto, will perform standard and original jazz and pop compositions.

May 16 at 8:00 PM
An Evening of Big Band Jazz
CCBC Essex, B Bldg Theatre
Under the direction of Ashton Fletcher, Powerhouse Ensemble will perform jazz standards and big band favorites.

MUSIC FORUMS
Weekly music forums feature professional musicians as well as students and faculty, and are free and open to the public. Music forums take place each Friday at 12:20pm in the Building E, Recital Hall, at CCBC Essex, unless otherwise noted.

February 1
Kevin Thompson, Bass

The young American Bass Kevin Thompson is rapidly emerging as that rare breed of Basso Profundo possessing a commanding stage presence and a voice with extraordinary range, depth, and color. A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Thompson is an alumnus of San Francisco Opera’s prestigious Merola Program, The Juilliard School in New York, and a graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. He can be heard on opera and concert stages throughout the United States and Europe. Mr. Thompson presents a recital of opera and art song, including Negro Spirituals and songs of African-American composers in celebration of African-American History Month. This concert is generously co-sponsored by the Office of Student Life.

CCBC Music Faculty Recital

The professional musicians of the CCBC music faculty will present a diverse program of selections from classical to jazz, in solo and ensemble.

February 22
City College High School Singing Knights

Under the direction of esteemed conductor Linda Hall, Baltimore’s own Singing Knights will present a concert of diverse and challenging choral music from the Renaissance Era to the sophisticated harmonies of the Contemporary Period. This premier ensemble is comprised of 25 select young musicians who exude superior music ability and skill and are considered the ‘heart’ of the Baltimore City College Choral Program. They have toured throughout the Eastern Seaboard and Europe and have performed at many prestigious venues, including the White House, Presidential Inaugural Balls, and Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The Singing Knights are also regularly invited to appear at professional choral conferences and conventions throughout the United States.

March 1
Christian Kazmierski, Violist

Currently a student at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, Christian Kazmierski is a student of Stephen Wryczynski and is the recipient of the Ruth Blaustein Rosenburg Orchestral Scholarship. He has been acclaimed for his technical and interpretive skill, with one reviewer stating, “The instrument sang richly and gloriously in his hands.” Mr. Kazmierski is the winner of several prestigious concerto competitions and has performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Durham Symphony, and Zionsville Chamber Orchestra.

Pop Student Recital

CCBC students studying applied music will present a concert of music in the popular style, including jazz and musical theater.

March 15
Dan Lewis, Classical Guitarist

CCBC music faculty member Dan Lewis will present a program ranging from Renaissance lute masterpieces to selections by living American composers. Hailed for his technical mastery and musicality, he has been heard at the Society of the Americas in New York, with the Cygnus Ensemble, at the J. P. Morgan Museum and Library, and at the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York, where his performance was described as “elegant.” Mr. Lewis holds degrees in guitar performance from Houghton College and Mannes College The New School for Music.

March 22
Angela Fout, Soprano: Recital and Master Class

CCBC alumna Angela Fout will offer a combination recital and master class for CCBC students, staff, and community. "Rich voiced and a deeply moving actress" (Opera News), Ms. Fout is debuting at opera companies around the world in repertoire that spans from the Baroque to the contemporary. A graduate of The Juilliard School and Julliard Opera Center (where she was awarded the prestigious DeRosa Career Grant), Ms. Fout has appeared with New York City Opera, Vancouver Opera, Minnesota Opera, Atlanta Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Lyric Opera of San Antonio, and the Spoleto Festival. She has also portrayed lead roles at Theater St. Gallen (Switzerland) since 2006. CCBC is delighted to welcome her home for this occasion.

Classical Student Recital

Students studying applied music at CCBC Essex will perform instrumental and vocal classical selections ranging from the Baroque era to modern times.

April 19
The EcoVoce Ensemble

EcoVoce (a musical voice for nature) are musicians with a passion for song and ecology. Comprised of soprano Denise Freeland, flutist Susan Hayes, and pianist Narciso Solero, this unique ensemble creates thoughtful and engaging programs about the many aspects of nature and the need for its preservation. This concert is presented in conjunction with, and generously supported by, the Community Book Connection.

April 26
Music Theater Showcase

CCBC voice students will present an afternoon of staged music theater scenes in solo and ensemble performances, including opera, operetta, and Broadway.

May 3
CCBC Chamber Singers

This choral ensemble, under the direction of Monica Otal, will present classical and contemporary choral repertoire on their Spring Choral Concert.

May 10
Honors Recital

Specially selected music students will perform and be honored, along with CCBC faculty members, at this festive final Music Forum of the season.
