PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

PROGRAMMING GOALS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 1999 - 2000

Based upon the focus groups and other learning activities on the part of the 1998-1999 Professional Development Team (PDT), a number of recommendations are being made as a starting point for the future PDT.

  • Disseminate information about the CCBC Professional Development Plan to all members of the college community. The PDT web site, as well as other venues, should be utilized for this purpose.

  • Design, implement and evaluate a series of small, interactive workshops for classified staff members that are focused on the roles they play that contribute to fostering student learning

  • Explore means to facilitate attendance by classified staff at appropriate events without supervisory penalty or repercussions

  • Design, implement and evaluate a series of small, interactive workshops for administrators that are focused on ways to foster collaboration among staff that results in Learning Communities

  • Fund and evaluate as a pilot project a Leadership Institute for classified staff

  • Extend the CCBC Leadership Academy to other mid-level administrators

  • Compile a comprehensive list of professional development stipends, workshops, and opportunities that are available across the College. Keep this list up-to-date and make the information widely available on the web site and through other means.

  • Design, implement and evaluate an interactive workshop for the CCBC community that features reports of the initiatives across the College that are studying or experimenting with Learning Communities

  • Design, implement and evaluate a communication mechanism for the CCBC community that features the highlights of the 1998-1999 planning process, including committee and council outcomes, best practices, and a sampling of on-line courses and the infusion of multi-media course components using Internet resources

  • Utilize the internal expertise of faculty and staff who attend conferences and institutes with college funds in order to extend their learning to others

  • Examine the current level of funding for tuition reimbursement for technical, graduate and post-graduate training for faculty and staff

  • Continue and expand the diversity institute for curriculum infusion

  • Organize a wellness fair for employees

  • Establish east-side and west-side professional development resource centers
