Technical Studies: Diesel and Equipment Maintenance Technology

About the Program

Heavy equipment technicians keep diesel powered equipment moving freight, earth and people; pumping water, oil or concrete; powering tractors; and generating electrical power. They not only diagnose malfunctions and repair engines, they repair and service fuel injection systems, electrical and electronic systems, hydraulic systems, brakes, steering systems and power transmission systems. Students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to repair and maintain diesel-powered highway, industrial, and marine vehicles and equipment. In hands-on labs, students repair, replace or adjust components and perform preventive maintenance tasks. Advanced diesel maintenance techniques and principles are applied in diagnosing malfunctions and prescribing corrective action.

Alban partners with CCBC for education

Alban Tractor Company Inc., one of Maryland’s largest diesel engine and equipment dealers, has partnered with CCBC to launch this new program. They are excited about the opportunities the DEMT program presents for both area businesses and current and future diesel technicians. To that end, Alban and the Caterpillar Foundation have provided funds for scholarships for DEMT students, as well as funds for tools and equipment.

Last year, more than $5000 was provided to students for scholarships. This year, approximately $10,000 has been earmarked for scholarships. Any student in the program is eligible to apply for the scholarship funds. See Mr. DeAngelis for an application.
