PHI 305 – MYSTICISM/RELIGIOUS/PHILOSOPHY

This course is designed to enable the student to examine the unbroken chain of teachers and philosophers who have taught the same universal truths, approaching them and reflecting on what they say about the nature of mankind, the nature of the world and its creator. Topics to be covered include the River of Wisdom, Time and Eternity, The Pearl of Great Price, the Vision of Reality, the Philosopher and the Task of Dying, Symbology, Story and Myth, Heaven and Earth, God as the All, and the Nature of the One.

Course Objectives:
1. cite mystic and religious philosophic themes throughout history;
2. discuss what these themes say about the nature of mankind, the world, and its creator;
3. explain the differences in thinking among some of these mystics and philosophers; and
4. identify some of these universal truths.

PHI 306 – Trends in Health and Disease

This course is designed to enable the student to examine the age old problem of evil. Topics to be covered include exploring why bad things happen to good people, why the good suffer, how to balance the good with the bad, and what is the source of evil.

Course Objectives:
1. discuss evil as a universal human problem,
2. analyze various responses to the problem through the ages, and
3. demonstrate how to approach one's own response to this problem.
