Lions Men's Soccer Battle Tough Week on Schedule Team Took Two
Games to Overtime
September 23, 2002 - CCBC Dundalk's Men's Soccer team
battled through one of the toughest week's on this season's schedule
going to overtime in consecutive games. The Lions lost to CCBC Essex
3-2 on Wednesday and, less than 48 hours later, played Montgomery -
Rockville to a 1-1 tie Friday afternoon.
In the Essex game, Dundalk had a chance to win with a penalty kick late
in regulation. The kick was almost good, but bounced off the right
goal post. Dundalk shot again but missed on the rebound attempt and
the game went to a sudden-death overtime. Early in the first overtime
period, CCBC Essex scored on a penalty kick, winning the hard-fought
contest. While the Lions lost the game, they knew that they had every
opportunity to beat Essex, the twelfth ranked team (Division II) in
the country.
Then, just two days later, the Lions faced another ranked team,
Montgomery - Rockville (eleventh ranked, Division III). Dundalk again
played extremely well, with the game ending in a 1-1 tie. Dundalk
learned a lot this week about team depth. Head Coach, Ben Bays, feels
good about the team's potential as the season progresses.
This week, the Lions will host the College of Southern Maryland on
Tuesday (September 24) night at 6:00 PM at CCBC Dundalk's Stadium
field. Then, Dundalk travels to Cecil Community College for a 12:00
PM contest on Saturday (September 28). For game results, visit the men's
