CCBC offers travel study programs in two different categories:

  • Credit- These courses are educational in nature and led by faculty. They offer the participant credit for the travel study program.
  • Non-credit- These courses offer educational programs for which the participant does not seek credit. Many travel study programs offer the participant the choice of credit or non-credit.

Egypt, June 6-17, 2008

Visit exotic Egypt to see the awe-inspiring Pyramids while standing in their shadow. You will also visit the Valley Temple, the Sphinx, and the Egyptian museum. Participants will fly to Luxor to tour Esna, the Temple of Edfu, and Kom-Ombo via a cruise ship. They will also travel to Aswan to tour Elephantine Island, enjoy the beautiful Botanical garden, and view the Agha Khan.

Cost: $2230 plus $290 fuel/tax surcharge.

Includes round-trip air fare, all tours, daily breakfast, lunches, all but one dinner, river cruise, and five-star hotel.

China, June 13-July 5, 2008, Chinese Language Trip. A joint venture between Howard Community College and CCBC.

Spend three weeks in China studying the Chinese language at a premier school (University of Soochow, in Suzhou) and earn academic credits or a Certificate of Proficiency. Travel to China and work with a professional staff of Chinese instructors on language acquisition, conversation skills, and Chinese culture. The participant will meet students from around the world at the Soochow campus and will be placed in small classes, based upon their level of Chinese language proficiency, for four hours each day. In the evenings and on the weekends, there will be excursions and expeditions where the participant will have more opportunities to absorb the language and culture of China. CCBC students who are seeking credit for the Chinese course must have written permission from the CCBC Language Department.

Cost: $2950.00 (Not including the cost of taking course for credit)

Registration Fee: $250.00 (Non-Refundable)

Initial Payment: $1350.00 (due February 29, 2008)

Final Payment: $1350.00 (due March 28, 2008)

Includes round trip airfare, tuition at Soochow University, room and board, 2-3 excursions, and ground transportation to and from the airport in China.

*Note: If payments are not made on time, the participant will be automatically dropped from program and will not be able to re-register. Note: HCC and CCBC reserves the right to increase the cost of the Program Fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, increased flight costs, and/or currency fluctuations.

This is a summer study program to learn Chinese arts, culture, and history. The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) will be our host institution. CAFA is the best Fine Arts institution in China and is located in Chaoyang District in Beijing. Participants will spend the first ten days in Beijing, the capital of modern China and home of the Great Wall and Forbidden City; followed by about seven days of traveling to Shanghai, the commercial center of China and Xi'an, where the terracotta warriors were unearthed. After that, the group will return to Beijing for activities relating to the Summer Olympics.

This program is offered for three (3) credits for Fine Arts 102 (HCC), studying art, culture, and history of China or equivalent CCBC course. This involves academic course work; hands on experiences; artists' demonstrations; field trips to ancient artifact sites, museums, theaters, galleries and artists' studios; visits with local Chinese families, and more. The Cost includes: roundtrip and domestic airfare in China; ground transportation to and from the airport; scheduled field trips, fees, lodging, and most meals at host institution (The Central Academy of Fine Arts); hotels and all meals in Xi'an and Shanghai; and tickets for museums, theater, and Olympic events.

Cost: $3,650.00 (not including cost of taking course for credit)

Registration Fee: $250 (non-refundable)

Explore the different cultural influences of Argentine Society, especially as expressed in the tango. Participants will learn about the formation and environmental impact of waterfalls by visiting some of the world's most spectacular ones in Iguazu National Park. Specifically, the Argentine Falls is set in a subtropical rainforest with more than 2,000 plant species and more than 400 species of birds. In addition, travelers will compare and contrast the cosmopolitan and multicultural city life of Buenos Aires and ranch life on the Argentine pampas of Estancia Santa Susana. Other highlights include a folklore show, a horse ride in the impressive landscape of Los Cardales that is dedicated to agriculture, and a boat trip to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. For the boat trip, participants will tour the Portuguese fortress that was discovered during the 17th century. A full-day excursion to the Tigre area is also included. During this excursion, participants will enjoy a boat ride along the innumerable channels of the Parana Delta in route to one of the hundreds of beautiful islands.

Cost: $3579.00

Includes: Round trip airfare, sightseeing with a local tour guide, 24-hour service of tour manager, all excursions, double room accommodations, two meals for most days, and three meals on two days.

The Egyptian program that was offered in June 2008 was popular and filled quickly. Accordingly, we are offering the trip again!

During the 2009 trip, participants will visit the land of the Pharaohs and tour places where Jacob and Joseph traveled during the famine. Participants will also tour the ancient world, which dates back to over 1,000 years prior to Abraham. Additionally, they will spend time at one of the seven wonders of the world (Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx). There will be opportunities to see Tutankhamen's treasures and ancient remains at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo as well as participate in a day trip to Alexandria, known as "The Pearl of the Mediterranean"--has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern. During this day trip, you will see the Fort at Quit Bay and the ancient catacombs of Kom and Pompey's Pillar while relaxing and enjoying the views of the Montaza Palaces. There are other experiences that cannot be missed. These experiences include: a three-day cruise on the Nile; a visit to the Valley of the Kings where the ancient Pharaohs are buried; a tour of the famous Temple of Hatshepsut; an excursion to the famous Temple of Luxor; and trips to the Temple of Karnak (one of Egypt's most important Pharaonic sites), Edfu, and Kom Ombo. Participants will also visit the modern city of Aswan (where the High Dam was built) and take time to stroll through the city markets. Thereafter, they will travel by bus to Abu Simbel in Upper Egypt to tour the UNESCO world heritage site known as the "Nubian Monuments" as well as to see the Temple of Ramses II.

Cost: $3119.00 double occupancy, $249.00 single supplement

Bavaria, Croatia and Oberammergau's Passion Play, June 16-27, 2010

Explore the hidden treasures and wonders of Bavaria, Croatia, and Slovenia. Participants will travel to Bavaria where the tour begins. They will proceed to Oberammergau, Bavaria to see the performance of the "Passion Play"--the original performance dates back to 1634 and is only offered every ten years. Thereafter, participants will visit Plitvice, Slovenia with its 16 cascading lakes. During this segment of the tour, participants can enjoy the tranquil blue waters of Lake Bled with the majestic Julian alps as a backdrop. The tour then moves to Split, Croatia where travelers will experience the impressive Roman Palace of Diocletian, one of the most significant late-Roman historical monuments that is identified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Travelers will continue on to Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where the stone statue of the Queen of Peace stands by the church grounds. They will also visit the Apparition Hill, which commemorates the spot the Virgin Mary is said to have first appeared to six young visionaries. In addition, participants will walk in the footsteps of Marco Polo on the island of Korcula, which is his birthplace. There are also opportunities to tour Croatia's finest wine producing areas (e.g. the Peljesac Region) and sample some of the local wines. The tour will proceed to Dubrovnik ("Pearl of the Adriatic"), which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you will experience the old city walls and many other historical sites. The trip also includes a home-hosted dinner in the culturally rich Konavle region and a tour of the majestic city of Zagreb (capital of Croatia).

Cost: $5,599.00 per person

Includes: Round trip air fare from BWI, air taxes and fees/surcharges of $400.00 (subject to increase until paid in full), hotel transfers.

Not included: Cancellation waiver and insurance of $350.00 per person

Explore the magnificence of Belize's natural beauty and help run a nationally lauded English literacy camp. The Belizean people are as warm and captivating as the surrounding rainforests and beaches. Even though Belize's national language is English, you will have opportunities to explore a myriad of cultures and landscapes while basking in the Caribbean sun. The Belize Service-Learning project is designed to address the needs of the Mayan community by offering a two-week summer literacy camp for children.

This program is being offered for two (2) credits in SCII 111- "Engagement in Communities".
