CCBC receives $150,000 gift to support the
NEH Challenge Grant initiative
Anonymous donor pledges support to help rehabilitate CCBC’s Hilton Mansion and
grow the college’s Hospitality and Restaurant Management program

CCBC recently received a gift of $150,000 from an anonymous benefactor in support of the college’s National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Challenge Grant initiative. This initiative supports funding to rehabilitate the historic Hilton Mansion at CCBC Catonsville and strengthens CCBC’s Hospitality and Restaurant Management program.

“This project contributes directly to CCBC’s commitment to preserving our historic treasure while educating our students to thrive within a global community,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis.

CCBC’s mission is to provide an accessible, affordable and high-quality education that prepares students for transfer and career success, strengthens the regional work force, and enriches the community. According to President Kurtinitis, “Embedded in this mission is the college’s unwavering commitment to excellence, access and completion. Our goal is to train graduates prepared for leadership both in their communities as well as their disciplines.”

Recently CCBC had the honor of becoming one of only six community colleges in the country to receive an NEH Challenge Grant in its first national competition for community colleges. This $500,000 grant forms the foundation of the college’s efforts to raise the two-to-one match funding essential to establishing CCBC’s Center for Global Education which will be housed in the historic Hilton Mansion.

In addition to housing the Center for Global Education and CCBC’s reinvigorated Hospitality program, the Hilton Mansion will be home to a Living History Center as a tribute to both the rich history of both the mansion and its surrounding Catonsville community.
