CCBC HOSTS REGIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Baltimore County, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore
County, Catonsville (CCBC Catonsville) will host the 2003 Maryland
Sports Medicine Unseld Classic, the premier holiday high school
basketball tournament in the Baltimore region, Dec. 26, 27, and 29,
2003. In the event of inclement weather, make-up dates for the
tournament are set for Dec. 30, 2003 and Jan. 2 and 5, 2004. CCBC
Catonsville founded and has been the only host of this tournament for
the past 18 years.
“This is an opportunity to provide a quality holiday tournament close to
home for Baltimore area schools,” said Brian Farrell, CCBC Catonsville
athletics director.
High school teams competing in the tournament include Milford Mill,
Northwestern of Baltimore City and Randallstown. New to the tournament
roster this year are teams from Chesapeake of Anne Arundel County,
Dunbar, Frederick Douglas, Owings Mills and Southern of Baltimore City.
The tournament is named in honor of Wes Unseld, long-time Bullets
basketball star and Baltimore sports legend. University of Maryland
Medicine sponsors the tournament and generously provides financial,
marketing and medical support for the event.
In addition, the 2003 Maryland Sports Medicine Mixer will be held at 3
p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 27 and 29 and will feature Broadneck,
Centennial, Dulaney, and Mergenthaler. These mixer games will be played
between the consolation games and the winner’s bracket games of the
tournament.
