CCBC Dance Company’s Fall Concert to showcase newly choreographed works
by CCBC faculty, students and guest artists
11:15 a.m., Dec. 8; 8 p.m., Dec. 9-10, John E. Ravekes Theatre, CCBC Dundalk

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. – Energy, exploration and expression mark the annual fall concert by the Community College of Baltimore County Dance Company which will be performed 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 and 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10 in the John E. Ravekes Theatre at CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road. Tickets are $8 general admission and $5 seniors, students, CCBC faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets can be purchased at the CCBC Box Office 443-840-2787 (ARTS).

CCBC Dance Company members performing are: Leanne Gibson, Deontay Gray, Aysia Mayo, Jasmine Perry and Maurice Stokes of Baltimore, Md.; Angelique Eshman of Essex, Md.; Kara Glinowiecki, Rachael Mucha and Taylor Stronsky of Nottingham, Md.; Ashley Thompson of Owing Mills, Md., and Brandon Rapp of Perry Hall, Md.

The CCBC 2011 Fall Dance Concert will include the following works:

• Ash, a new work by Assistant Professor/CCBC Dance Program Coordinator Tommy Parlon, explores the people relating to each other with tenderness and sympathy. The choreography pulsates with dynamic partnering that requires a high level of trust among the dancers and includes movements that fly through the air and then plummet to the floor dramatically.

• Beneath the Sky is a full company work that pushes the dancers as they weave through each other to shift their location in the space. Dynamic running, reaching and falling are explored throughout the work that was inspired by watching the birds as they flock through the sky. In Seeking – Section 2, part of a longer work in development, the duet of dancers explore their chances for discovering a connection to each other. Seeking to know yourself and those around you is an ongoing experience that shifts and changes over time; even when you think you know yourself, things change. This work explores these ideas. Assistant Professor/Artistic Director of the CCBC Dance Company Melinda Blomquist created these two new works for the program.

• Full Out! is an upbeat technical Jazz Dance piece combined with some elements of classical ballet, hip hop, and voguing (Think Madonna!) Choreographed by Amanda T. Fair, an adjunct faculty member, the work gives the dancers a specific character to play in opening rehearsal warm-up scene, which then leads into an on-stage "rehearsal" and finishes as a full out high energy performance. First performed by Fair’s Poetic Xpressions Dance Company in 2008 as a finale piece, Full Out! continues to be choreographed by different companies whose dancers are asked to bring their own flavor to their performance. Full Out! – meant to poke a little fun at the dance audition/rehearsal scene today –allows each dancer to let his/her hair down, let go, break all of the rules and JUST DANCE!

• Early Fall is by guest artist Alvin Mayes, who worked with the company in May to create the new work. The dancers had the opportunity to explore the movement material and through a collaborative process developed this work that reminisces about times of the past and reflections that happen in early Fall.

• Stay Tuned by CCBC alumna and guest artist Adrienne Kraus Latanishen pokes fun at Reality TV. Set to the music of Passion Pit, it is a juxtaposition of slow, Butoh-like movement and frantic flinging that examines how this entertainment craze has affected people.

One of the highlights of the CCBC Fall Dance Concert is always the performance of works adjudicated by the Dance program faculty for the concert. This year’s program includes four works by student choreographers:
• Where I've been, Where I'm going - Kara Glinowiecki
• A Hopeful Desire - Rachael Mucha
• Persistence - Brandon Rapp
• Would have been The One - Maurice Stokes

Rachael Mucha and Brandon Rapp’s works represent their independent final projects to fulfill part of their graduation requirements.
