CCBC Student Awarded STEM Scholarship

Baltimore, Md. – For Spring 2010, Dundalk resident Dennis Ronnie Hayden Jr. was one of 27 Community College of Baltimore County students to receive a scholarship sponsored by the National Science Foundation for students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM). Hayden is majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics. He will graduate from CCBC this June and plans to continue his education at Towson University.

Scholarship recipients were awarded up to $10,000 per academic year based on need. In addition to the scholarship, awardees receive mentoring by STEM faculty, participate in a two-day summer career and transfer experience, have the opportunity to attend a career luncheon seminar and receive assistance to obtain an optional STEM internship. A portion of the scholarship funds have been designated to “follow” awardees who earn either an associate’s degree or 45 credits at CCBC and transfer to a four-year institution and major in STEM fields.
