CCBC ESSEX CELEBRATES HONORS PROGRAM ALUMNI

Baltimore County, Md. – It’s a tradition for the Honors Program at The Community College of Baltimore County, Essex (CCBC Essex) to invite Honors Program alumni back to the campus to speak with current students about their lives post-CCBC. This year’s Honors Program Alumni Day will be held at 12 noon Monday, Feb. 20 in the B building on the Essex campus, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

According to Rae Rosenthal, professor of English and CCBC Essex Honors Program director, “The Alumni Luncheon is a great opportunity for the current members to hear alums speak about their transfer schools and how well that school has worked out for them.”

The Honors Program, which invites all of its alumni to come back for Alumni Day, asks several to speak briefly to the entire group. This year’s five Honors Program Alumni Day speakers are:

• Nakia Bell, Rosedale resident and 2004 CCBC graduate, is completing her degree at Hood College in Frederick.
• Kara Megan Davis of Catonsville and member of the class of 2004 is completing her bachelor’s at Goucher College.
• Marc Fischer of the class of 1990 received his bachelor’s from Loyola of Maryland and now has his own business. He resides in Eldersburg.
• Michael Holloway, currently a Beltsville resident, received a full Regents Scholarship to complete his bachelor’s at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is now pursuing his Ph.D. in Engineering at UMCP.
• Megan Roeder, a Parkville resident from the class of 2001, completed her psychology degree at Goucher and currently works in mental health at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

These students and other alumni have successfully transitioned from community college to graduate from prestigious four-year colleges and universities all over the country. Any full-time or part-time Essex student may apply for the Honors Program at CCBC Essex. While the program is designed for students with outstanding academic records, students who have not performed up to their potential can apply if they can show how they have now found the motivation to excel. Once accepted into the program, students receive at least a partial scholarship.
