CCBC Hosts 'College Goal Sunday' on Feb. 12

Students get assistance in applying for financial aid
at the Catonsville and Dundalk campuses

Baltimore County, Md. - If limited Internet access and the need for financial aid are presenting stumbling blocks for students on the road to higher education, The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) will offer a way to overcome those obstacles on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006. Two of CCBC’s campuses, Catonsville and Dundalk, will serve as host sites for College Goal Sunday (CGS), a free one-day event, sponsored by the DE-DC-MD Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, that provides an opportunity for students to receive free, professional assistance to complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The event will begin at 2 p.m. and is endorsed by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), Maryland State Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education.

CGS will take place in the second floor lobby area of K building at CCBC Catonsville and in the K building cafeteria at CCBC Dundalk. Computers and staff will be available to provide help with processing forms. Each site will also hold an educational prize drawing for a $300 scholarship that students will be able to use at the college of their choice. The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators will provide funds for the scholarships.

Completion of a FAFSA is required by most colleges, universities and private career schools in order for students to qualify for financial aid. Participating in CGS will offer a way for students to complete online submission of the form, early. This year, MHEC’s goal is to award approximately $95 million in financial aid to Maryland students.

Students attending College Goal Sunday should bring proof of 2005 income and benefits information, such as completed or estimated IRS federal income tax returns and W-2 Forms, or year-end pay stubs and proof of untaxed income, for the student and parent(s).

For additional information, please contact the Financial Aid office at CCBC Catonsville (443-840-4170) or CCBC Dundalk (443-840-3185).
