MUSIC

Music Makers & Shakers for Babies (Ages Birth-18Mo.)

Adults and babies explore music-pitch, rhythm and kinetic awareness through song, dance, bouncing and rocking. This kind of activity helps create connections in the brain that develop listening, language and spatial skills.

Music Makers & Shakers Mixed (Ages Birth-4 yrs.)

Children learn best in a mixed age group environment. Through songs, rhythm instruments, and movement activities, children will learn through play while the parent/caregiver becomes the role model for enjoying music. A mixed age class allows parents to confidently bring multiple children. Babies under 6 months may attend free with a registered child.

Kids with Guitars (Ages 9-11)

Young students can study guitar in an age appropriate manner. Because young hands and fingers are still developing, this class will teach strumming and body alignment techniques appropriate to children's growing muscles. You'll also learn basic guitar maintenance, chord progressions, tablature and simple songs. Bring your own guitar to class.

Guitar for Teens (Ages 12-14)

If you have little or no playing experience this class will teach you to tune and maintain your guitar as well as instruct you in basic chord progressions, hand positions and strumming techniques. Learn how to purchase appropriate music, strings and equipment. Bring your own guitar.

Guitar for Teens Level II (Ages 13-16)

Designed for the slightly older teen with some prior guitar experience, learn music vocabulary, notation, muscle coordination, and more complex chord progressions and strumming techniques. Bring your own guitars to class.

Keyboard Geography: Summer Sampler (Ages 6-8)

You and your child will make beautiful music together through the use of musical games that will introduce basic keyboard skills. Children will learn about notation, hand and finger number recognition solfedge singing, and hand and body coordination. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Keyboard Geography: Holiday Songs (Ages 6-8)

Everyone loves holiday music. In this continuation course emphasis will be placed on learning simple holiday songs while improving hand body coordination, hand positioning, and basic music notation and rhythm.

Child's Piano Class (Ages 7-10)

In a supportive group setting, your child will work with a full sized electronic keyboard and learn an introduction to keyboard basics, finger work, and note reading. Earphones permit silent practice.

Music Sign Language (Ages 5-8)

Musical sign language is a graceful and lovely way for children to express themselves. Students will learn to sign and sing songs simultaneously encouraging creativity, and dramatic expression. The final class will include a presentation for family and friends.

Woodwind Choir (Ages 13-17)

Ideal for high school musicians (or the equivalent) who are looking to improve their musicianship skills and techniques in an ensemble. Various styles of music will be learned and a final performance will be presented at the end of the semester.

Private Lessons
Private music instruction on most instruments and voice is offered for both youth and adult students. High-quality one-on-one instruction provides individual attention appropriate to your skill level and ability. Lessons are arranged on an individual basis with the appropriate instructor, instruments are not provided. Before registering, call the Creative Arts Center at 410-780-6533 to make arrangements for placement with an instructor.

Young artists develop skills and learn to combine different art techniques and materials such as drawing, painting, and sculpture. Discover exciting ways to create art using a variety of subject matter including still life, mask making and portraits.

Children's Clay

Children learn about the art of clay through a variety of creative techniques. Different methods of hand building, including pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Student work will be kiln-fired and decorated using glazes and other materials.

Japanese Anime and Manga

This class will introduce young artists to both Japanese Anime and Manga (Japanese comics). Students will learn to draw and paint in the anime style plus create stories and characters. Computer Keyboarding for Young People

Computer Animation: Introduction to Flash

In this hands-on class, you'll learn basic computer animation, covering the basic drawing tools as well as simple animations, glow buttons, graphic morphing, and graphic layering. Techno-Art: Cartooning

Participants will be exposed to the techniques of singing, acting, and dancing and what it takes to put together a production. They will meet and interview Baltimore-area singers, dancers, actors and actresses to get a glimpse of their professional experience and insights.
