Introduction to Watercolor

James Drake Iams, Noted Maryland Artist, Presents Watercolor Painting: A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Iams also holds graduate degrees from Pennsylvania State University and the Maryland Institute of Art. He is a life member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the American Society of Marine Artists. The watercolor painting courses will be organized to acquaint the student with the various processes and techniques in rendering a watercolor. The three sessions will cover seascape and rendering of water, landscape with emphasis on architectural drawing and painting and still life concentrating on composition. Students must furnish art materials with list provided at time of registration.

Great Naval Battles of the Pacific War

The Naval Battles of World War II in the Pacific were decided by the big gun, torpedo and airplane as well as the commanders, strategies and tactics. We will look at nine (9) of these battles: the carrier battles of Eastern Solomon’s, Santa Cruz Islands, Philippine Sea, the big gun/torpedo duels in the waters of Guadal canal, Savo Island, Cape Esperence, and the two battles on November 13thand 15th collectively known as the Naval Battle of Guadal canal. The Art and History of Renaissance Florence

This course is an introduction to the art and history of Renaissance Florence. We will look at the social, cultural, and artistic developments of Florence from the 13th to the 16th centuries - a time which witnessed the growth of the commune, the rise of the Medici, the literary works of Dante and Machiavelli, and the genius of the Florentine artist. We touch on Renaissance humanism, a movement that established Florence as the birthplace of the modern age. With an emphasis on painting, sculpture, and architecture, we will look at the works of Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Cimabue, Donatello, Fra Angelico, Ghirlandaio, Giotto, Masaccio, Michelangelo, and others. Florence is a vast and beautiful monument to the Renaissance as seen in its buildings, streets and art works housed in museums and churches. The instructor recently spent a month in Italy. Expressionistic Art of Early 20th Century Germany
