Successful completion of all five courses in the series, passing the exam upon completion, and one year of experience in the field leads to eligibility to sit for the certifying exam with Joint Commission of Allied Health Professions - Ophthalmic (JCAHP-O).

AHE 781
Ophthalmic Medical Assistant (OPMA)

Study to become an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant. Learn basic anatomical structures of the eye and skull, common ophthalmic diseases and their symptoms and treatment. Acquire the skills necessary to operate equipment in the ophthalmic office, assist with eye examinations and provide patient education. This course is based on the program approved by the Joint Commission of Allied Health Professions-Ophthalmic (JCAHP-O). Completion of this course and successful work experience enables students to sit for national certification as an ophthalmic assistant. Textbook included. Prerequisite: CPR for Healthcare Providers (AHE 805) and successful completion of Medical Terminology, HIPAA Training (AHC 360 or AHL 719). Students must participate in clinical to complete the training. Cost of clinical is included in the course cost.
