The program requires the demonstration of sixty-five generalized skills and one vocational skill in order to earn a Maryland State high school diploma. The External Diploma Program is located on the CCBC Essex Campus and the CCBC Catonsville Campus. To make an appointment, please call 443-840-1284.

Workplace Literacy Skills

Workplace skills generally refer to the basic skills needed by an employee to understand written and verbal communication. These include reading, writing, math, communication and problem solving. Studies estimate between 25 to 40 percent of the current workforce lack the basic skills to understand written or verbal communications. This workplace illiteracy costs U.S. businesses an estimated $225 billion a year in lost productivity.

The Community College of Baltimore County believes educated employees are both valuable assets to the employer and more productive and stable members of society. Addressing both workplace goals and employee needs, the college's Workplace Literacy Program can help your employees to:

-

Enhance their ability to read, write and speak English

-

Develop computing and problem-solving skills to the proficiency level needed to function on the job and in society
