Academic Advisement

Academic advisement begins when a student is admitted to the college and continues through transfer, graduation or other goal attainment. Academic Advisement assists students to develop their personal, educational and/or career goals while supporting them to become self-directed learners. Advisors assist students with:
  • Selecting courses based upon assessment/placement results in reading, English and mathematics;
  • Interpreting academic requirements and selecting appropriate courses toward obtaining a certificate, associate degree or for personal enrichment;
  • Clarifying academic goals;
  • Selecting a major or course of study.

Academic Advisement also assists students with transfer information through:

  • ARTSYS (Web-based transfer information system)
  • College Transfer Day
  • Campus visits by four-year colleges and universities
  • In-class workshops
