HFMJ 120 – 2 Credits
Introduction to Health and Fitness Studies
Introduces the health and fitness studies major to the demands and rewards of a career in fitness or health education; provides students with opportunities to apply what they learn in class in order to gain practical experience and insight into the role of a fitness/health professional.
HFMJ 140 – 3 Credits
Principles of Cardiovascular Training and Weight Management
Introduces the theories and applied principles of physical training and conditioning; major emphasis of this class will be application of these principles to cardiovascular respiratory endurance and body composition.
Prerequisite: ENGL 051 (conc) or ESOL 042 (conc)
HFMJ 220 – 3 Credits
Methods and Materials of Fitness Instruction
Prepares students to be an effective personal trainer or fitness instructor; incorporates multiple practical experiences to enhance communications, feedback, and evaluation skills leading to the development of the full expertise to be a fitness professional.
Prerequisite: HFMJ 140; Corequisite: HFMJ 240
HFMJ 240 – 3 Credits
Principles of Muscular Conditioning and Flexibility
Investigates the theories and applied principles of physical training and conditioning as they relate to flexibility improvement and muscular strength, endurance and power development; examines the principles and training variables of weight training, a detailed comparison of various weight training programs, and the development of power through plyometics.
Prerequisite: ENGL 051 or ESOL 042
HFMJ 250 – 3 Credits
Management of Fitness Facilities and Programs
Provides the health and fitness studies major with comprehensive information on the organization and administration of programs and facilities in the profession; covers the entire concept of management: policy development, budgeting, personnel, programming, facilities, legal considerations, and marketing.
Prerequisite: ENGL 051 or ESOL 042
HFMJ 251 – 1 Credit
Health and Fitness Studies Seminar
Designed to be a capstone experience, a culmination of the health and fitness studies major's preparation for entry into the fitness field.
Prerequisites: HFMJ 140, HFMJ 220, HFMJ 240, HLTH 140, HLTH 132 |
