Honors for High Achievement

Dean's List
At the end of each academic term, the Dean's list is published to recognize students who have achieved outstanding academic success. To qualify, a student must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 over a minimum of the last twelve (12) credits attempted since the last review, and not have a D or F during that time.

Graduation with honors
A student who qualifies for the associate degree will also receive an Honors designation.

Honors program

The Honors Program is intended to promote academic excellence in a student who is both intellectually gifted and highly motivated. A student is encouraged to think analytically and creatively and is taught to communicate his or her thoughts effectively in both oral and written projects.

Honors courses are designed to:

  • Emphasize student involvement
  • Foster collaboration and inquiry
  • Require work at a more sophisticated level
  • Involve participation, exposure to new ideas, active learning and critical thinking

Honors Program Eligibility
The Honors program is open to interested students who show potential for superior academic performance. A student may apply for the program if he or she already has an excellent academic record or becomes aware of his or her potential. A potential Honors student possesses the motivation to excel. An interested student whould request an application from the campus Honors program director:

Criteria for Recognition of Enrolled Honors Student

  • Enroll in the Honors program and meets minimum requirements
  • Complete at least 15 of the 60 credit hours required for graduation, and
  • Earn an overall GPA of 3.5 or better
