CARDINALS TAKE REGION TITLE WITH A WIN OVER HOST CHESAPEAKE
The MD JUCO Champion CCBC Catonsville Cardinals added another title to their resume by winning the Region XX Softball Tournament on Sunday, May 5, 2013 with a 14-0 win over Chesapeake. Eleni Wright hit a 3 run homerun in the first inning and Kyrstin Elliott hit a grand slam in the second inning. That was more than enough for Sammi O’Connor, who allowed only a 7th inning hit to win her third game of the weekend.
The Cardinals reached the championship round on Saturday, May 4th with a 4-3 win over Chesapeake. O’Connor was the winner, allowing 8 hits and surviving a difficult sixth inning with a key strikeout to end the frame. She then pitched a perfect 7th inning to close out the game. Elliott hit a three run homerun in the first inning and Erin Pronobis added an RBI single in the second to give Catonsville a 4-0 lead. All of the runs came with two outs.
Catonsville started the tournament with a 9-1 victory over Hagerstown on Friday, May 3rd. O’Connor allowed only 3 hits and aided her own cause with a double and 2 RBIs. Wright hit a home run and drove in three runs.
Catonsville will travel to the NJCAA National Tournament on May 15-18 in Clinton, MS.

SAMMI O’CONNOR PITCHES SECOND NO-HITTER OF SEASON
Catonsville freshman right hander Sammi O’Connor pitched her second no-hitter of the season against Harford on April 16, 2013, leading CCBC Catonsville to an 11-0 win in the first game of a double header. O’Connor struck out 11 and walked only one in the five inning affair. She ran her record to 15-2.
Kyrstin Elliott led the Catonsville attack with a 3-4 effort and 4 RBIs. Erin Pronobis also went 3-4, with 3 runs and 2 RBIs. Three others (Hunter Long, Brittany Kinnear and Cali Hernandez) contributed two hits each.
Catonsville completed the sweep at Harford with an 11-3 win in game two. Sam Lang improved her record to 6-4. O’Connor pitched the final two innings of the six inning game. Kyrstin Elliott was again the hitting star, going 3-3 with 3 runs and 3 RBIs. Elliott and Lang both homered in game 2.
O’Connor continued her pitching mastery the following day, April 17th, with a one hitter versus Anne Arundel to improve her record to 16-2. She struck out 8 and had no walks as Catonsville won by an 8-0 count in game 1 of a double header.
Sammi O’Connor pitched a perfect game on Saturday, April 6, 2013. She was named NJCAA Pitcher of the week for April 1-7 on the national level and March MD JUCO Student Athlete of the Month for softball on the state level.
O’CONNOR’S PERFECT GAME LEADS TO CATONSVILLE DOUBLE HEADER SWEEP
Freshman right hander Sammi O’Connor pitched a perfect game in game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6, 2013, leading CCBC Catonsville to a 9-0 win over visiting Garrett College. O’Connor faced 15 batters in the 5 inning game, striking out 12 and allowing only one ball out of the infield. She improved her record to 12-2. O’Connor helped her own cause by driving in the only runs she needed with a 3 run double in the first inning. Kyrstin Elliot drove in four runs for CCBC Catonsville.
Catonsville completed the sweep with a 13-4 win over Garrett in game 2. Sam Lang improved her record to 4-3 and aided her own cause with a 4-4 day with 3 runs and 2 runs batted in.
Catonsville is second in MD JUCO with a 7-0 conference mark. The Lady Cardinals are 19-8 overall.
