April events at the Community College of Baltimore County

Baltimore County, Md. - The Community College of Baltimore County hosts a myriad of events during April 2010, which is National Community College Month. Join us for fun, free or family-friendly priced, educational entertainment – right in your neighborhood.

March 27 - April 5  

CCBC is closed for Spring Break from Saturday, March 27 through Monday, April 5. CCBC classes will resume and offices will reopen Tuesday, April 6. Online registration for the summer session is available at www.ccbcmd.edu throughout Spring Break.


Through April 9

The Gallery at CCBC, Catonsville hosts Child’s Play, an invitational group exhibit through Friday, April 9 in the Q Building Gallery CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. For gallery hours, call 443-840-4246 or visit the Web site at http://ccbcmd.edu/adim/galleries.html. FREE.

CCBC Dundalk Office of Student Life and the School of Health Professions Practical Nursing Program will host a health fair, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 7 in the Bookstore Lobby and the second floor lounge of the K Building at CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road. Music at CCBC invites you to attend its Friday Music Forum featuring Brass Roots Trio (trumpet, horn and piano) 12:20 p.m., Friday, April 9 in the E Building Recital Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard. FREE.


April 9

The Astronomy program hosts an observing session 9-11 p.m. April 9 at the Observatory at CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road. Call 410-282-3092 about 45 minutes before the session to see if the sky is clear enough for the session to be held. FREE.


April 10

New York City Day Trip, 7 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. An annual spring event! Enjoy a day doing whatever your heart desires—sightseeing, museums, shopping, or a matinee. Drop off and pick up will be in the theatre district. Maps and a restaurant list will be distributed on the coach. The group departs NYC at 6:30 pm. This trip will depart from and return to Perry Hall High School. The cost is $55 which includes coach, breakfast snack, gratuities, and escort.


April 14

CCBC Office of Student Life presents poet Nikki Giovanni speaking on “Diversity as Art: Art is Diversity,” 12:20 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, B Building Theatre, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard and 6 p.m. Q Building Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. Flavors of Philly Foodie Tour, Philadelphia, PA 11:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Indulge in Philly’s food, history, culture, and fun! This fun and delicious tour takes place in the heart of the City of Brotherly Love and includes six stops, more than two hours of indulging and less than 30 minutes of walking. Get the inside scoop on Philly’s food history with quirky stories about how some of these iconic foods came to be, and walk away with food in your tummy and some fun tips about the best places to eat like a local. Make room, this is not only a tasting adventure, but a meal! The cost is $97 which includes coach, tour, guides, food samples, gratuities, and escort.

Music at CCBC presents a student recital of pop, jazz and musical theatre selections, 12:20 p.m., Friday, April 16, in the E Building Recital Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard. FREE.

Mission Possible 2010 - Agents of Change CCBC's Third Annual Gala featuring cocktails, dinner and dancing will be held 7 p.m. – midnight, Saturday, April 17 at Martin's West in Woodlawn. Michelle McCallum will curate the exhibition of works by students in CCBC’s Continuing Education program from Friday, April 19 through Friday, May 14 at The Gallery at CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road. April 20

Historic Garden Week in Virginia, Fredericksburg 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Historic Garden Week is the oldest and largest statewide house and garden tour event in the nation. Sponsored by The Garden Club of Virginia, tours benefit the restoration of important historic grounds and gardens throughout the state. Each event offers an engaging variety of five to six local houses and gardens, most open to the public for the first time for Garden Week. We’ll be visiting the homes sponsored by the Fredericksburg Chapter of the Garden Club and will be receiving more information about the properties we’ll be visiting in late January. The trip also includes lunch at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The cost is $108, which includes coach, breakfast snack, admissions/tours, lunch, gratuities, and escort.


April 20-21

The CCBC – Towson University Associate to Master’s in Nursing program is hosting two information sessions, 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 20 in Room 102, L Building at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard and 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, Linthicum Hall, Room 113 at Towson University, 8000 York Road. The ATM program is offered to those who already have earned a bachelor’s degree and are interested in teaching Nursing upon completion of their Master’s degree. Music at CCBC presents The Peabody Consort, directed by renowned lutenist Professor Mark Cudek, for a program of music from the Italian Renaissance and Elizabethan England featuring recorder, lute, viola da gamba and voice. This Friday Music Forum will be held 12:20 p.m., Friday, April 23 in the E Building Recital Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard. FREE.

CCBC Dance Company performs its annual Spring Dance Concert, 10 a.m., Friday, April 23, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday April 23-24 and 12:30p.m., Sunday, April 26 in the B Building Theatre, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard. Tickets are $8 general admission and $5 for seniors, students, CCBC faculty, staff and alumni. $

The Astronomy program hosts The Little Comet Planetarium show at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24 in Room D-003 of the D Building at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. FREE.


April 26-May 21

Works by selected Art, Design and Interactive Media transfer students will be on exhibit from Monday, April 26 through Friday, May 21, in The Gallery at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. FREE. A reception with the artists will be held 6-8 p.m. May 14, at CCBC Catonsville. FREE.


April 27 Third Annual Victim’s Rights Seminar - The School of Justice and the CCBC Foundation Catonsville joins the Southwest Community in sponsoring the annual “Justice for Victims” Seminar, 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, in the Q Building Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. This year’s Justice Month event focuses on school safety and will cover timely topics such as bullying, substance abuse, gangs, etc. It is free and open to the public. April 29

Many know Mildred Muhammad as the former wife of John Allen Muhammad – the recently executed D.C. sniper who terrorized the area in late 2002. You will get to know her as a domestic violence survivor with a story to tell the world when she speaks Thursday, April 29 at 3 p.m. at CCBC Essex (7201 Rossville Boulevard) and again at 6 p.m. at CCBC Catonsville (800 South Rolling Road). A reception and book signing (Scared Silent) will follow each presentation. This Justice Month event is free and open to the public. For additional information, call 443-840-4668. FREE.

Music Theatre Showcase - CCBC voice students present staged musical theatre scenes in solo and ensemble productions, ranging from the “Golden Age” of Broadway to present day hit shows for this Music Forum, 12:20 p.m., Friday, April 30 in the E Building Recital Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard.
