April 4 program also features a safe driving seminar by
Cindi Lamb Mann (co-founder of MADD) and Dr. R. L. Wright (author of Street Smart)

Baltimore County, Md. – With prom and graduation seasons just around the corner, The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) School of Justice, with grants from Maryland Safe Highways and State Farm Insurance, is doubling its efforts on safe driving education. In conjunction with Justice Month 2006, the CCBC School of Justice presents a Safe Driving Seminar from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 on CCBC’s Catonsville campus, 800 S. Rolling Road. This program is free and open to students and the community. For additional information, call 443-840-3740.

Highlights of the April 4 Safe Driving program include:

  • Safe Driving Seminar from 9 – 11:30 a.m. in the Q Theatre featuring Cindi Lamb Mann, the co-founder of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Dr. R. L. Wright, a retired Baltimore City Police Officer, author of Street Smart and owner/operator of a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Dundalk, and representatives from the Baltimore County Drunk Driving Monitors Program
  • Seat Belt Simulator from the Maryland State Police
  • Safety Fair exhibitors from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Q Theatre Mezzanine
  • Pennsylvania DUI SafetyBug from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. in Parking Lot 3. This 1999 VW Beetle is engineered to demonstrate the loss of control that is experienced when you operate a motor vehicle while impaired. A trained mentor, who sits in the front passenger’s seat, controls the settings causing changes in the vehicle’s steering and braking abilities. Only drivers who present a valid driver’s license can sit behind the wheel. Others can go along for the ride in the backseat! Go to www.padui.org/bug.htm for a preview ride!

“You can gain real-life exposure to the perils of impaired driving – without being at risk – when you drive the SafetyBug,” notes Tanya Jones, director of the Professional Development Center for Excellence at the School of Justice/co-chairman of Justice Month 2006. “We are hoping that by bringing it to CCBC we can avert tragedy this prom season.”
