Discover the rich history of Baltimore's 19th century Mount Vernon that has been he home to scholars, students, struggling artists, newspapermen and women, social reformers, wealthy industrialists and society leaders from the early 19th century through the late 20th century. Observe its monuments, elegant brick and brownstone mansions and majestic cultural institutions then focus on the lives, legacy and former Mt. Vernon homes of prominent literary artists such as Carl Sandburg, Upton Sinclair, Edgar Allen Poe, Kurt Shapiro, John Murray, John Dos Passos, F. Learn about the aircraft designed/manufactured by the Martin Company, Middle River, MD plant Including the B-26 bomber, 404 airliner, P6M flying boat and the wingless X-24A “Lifting Body” (nicknamed the “Flying Potato”). It was used as a research vehicle for advanced spacecraft and technical knowledge learned from it was later applied to the Space Shuttle.
